Are you passionate about seeing rangatahi Māori thrive in STEMM? Do you want to be part of a kaupapa Māori movement that’s creating real impact? Pūhoro STEMM Academy is looking for a dedicated Te Urunga Tū Kaihautū to support rangatahi in Whanganui

As a Kaihautū, you will be at the forefront of our mahi, working directly with rangatahi, whānau, and schools to deliver Pūhoro’s secondary school programme, Te Urunga Tū. You’ll mentor students, facilitate wānanga, and create pathways into tertiary education, internships, and careers in STEMM.

About Pūhoro STEMM Academy

Pūhoro is a kaupapa Māori organisation dedicated to accelerating Māori success in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Mātauranga). Operating across 12 regions, we support over 2,000 rangatahi Māori in secondary school and tertiary education. Through innovative programmes, strategic partnerships, and cultural empowerment, we are driving meaningful change in the STEMM landscape.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic Kaihautū who will:
Deliver Pūhoro’s kaupapa in secondary schools, mentoring and supporting rangatahi.

Engage with whānau to ensure they are part of their tamariki’s STEMM journey.

Facilitate workshops, wānanga, and regional events that blend STEMM and mātauranga Māori.

Build pathways for rangatahi into tertiary study, internships, and employment.

Work collaboratively with iwi, industry, tertiary institutions, and other stakeholders.

About You

You are passionate about kaupapa Māori and supporting rangatahi Māori.

You have experience engaging with rangatahi and whānau.

You have knowledge in STEMM that enables you to support students at an NCEA level.

You have strong relationship management skills and can work with a diverse range of audiences, including kaiako, whānau, iwi, and industry partners.

You are confident in te ao Māori, and te reo Māori proficiency is desirable (but not essential).

You thrive in a team environment, bringing energy, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

Position Details

Location: Whanganui
Contract Type: Full-time, 12-month fixed-term (37.5 hours per week)
Salary Band: $60,500 - $83,000
